I have previously written,
here and
here, about the complete lack of receipt of any bills on my BT line.
Today I phoned them up as I am moving from this address to a smaller one. On pressing certain buttons, Digital Dorothy
1 told me that their records showed they had recently sent me a bill.
I went downstairs to check the pile of mail addressed to other people. Definitely no bill in the pile. I phoned them again and managed to find the correct sequence of buttons to speak to a person.
Unfortunately, house movers team can't see my bill, but I explained the situation, did give them my BT account number, and they've arranged for this line to be cut off. I was then transferred to billing and after only a short queue found out what the issued bill was for. Clearly, its only the last quarters bill, it can't be for anything more at the value of about £172. Of course, having arranged to cancel this line, some of that balance will be advanced charges and so I will get a final bill with some refund on it.
One can only hope that the bill makes it to the new address I have given them. As to charges for previous quarters - irretrievably lost it seems.
As to a line in the new place? Well, I ordered that through my ISP who resell BT lines. It seemed safer to have someone in between me and BT this time around.
1. Digital Dorothy is the name given to the automated voice used by telephone systems when issuing status messages about the call you are (trying to) make.
